Festive Season Marketing Checklist for Indian SMBs (Diwali to Year-End)

Diwali is on 8 November this year, which means the busiest buying window of the year is already close. For many Indian small businesses, the weeks from Dhanteras to year-end bring a big share of annual revenue, and also the most competition for attention.

The good news: you do not need a huge budget to win this season. You need a clear plan and a website that can actually convert the interest you create. This checklist walks through what to do, in the order that makes sense, whether you sell products, services or consulting.

1. Start with your website (before you spend on anything else)

It is tempting to jump straight to ads. Don't. If your website loses visitors, every rupee of ad spend leaks out.

Check these first:

  • Mobile experience. Most festive traffic comes from phones. Open your site on your own phone, on mobile data, and try to complete the action you want a customer to take.

  • Page speed. Slow pages lose people quickly, especially during peak season when everyone is browsing in a hurry.

  • A clear festive offer on the homepage. One banner, one message, one button. No hunting.

  • A working contact path. A form that submits, a WhatsApp link that opens, a phone number that is clickable.

  • Updated dates and details. Nothing says "we're not paying attention" like an expired offer still sitting on the homepage.

Not sure where your site stands? A free website audit can show you the gaps in about the time it takes to have chai.

2. Decide your festive offer (and keep it simple)

The best festive offers are easy to understand in five seconds.

  • Pick one hero offer. A discount, a bundle, a free add-on or a limited-period package. Too many offers confuse people.

  • Set a real deadline. A genuine end date creates urgency without pressure tactics.

  • Protect your margins. Do the maths before you announce. A sale that loses money is not a win.

  • Think beyond discounts. Early-bird pricing, free consultations, gifting options and loyalty rewards can all work, especially for services and B2B.

For service businesses and consultants, a festive offer might be a free audit, a discounted first month or a bundled package for the new year.

3. Update your Google Business Profile

If you have a physical presence or serve a local area, this is one of the highest-impact things you can do this week.

  • Add your festive hours so customers don't show up to a closed door.

  • Post a Google update about your offer.

  • Refresh your photos with festive-ready images.

  • Reply to recent reviews, since new customers read them closely.

We've covered the fundamentals in our guide to optimising your Google Business Profile, so start there if your listing hasn't been touched in a while.

4. Plan your content calendar (just enough)

You do not need to post every day. You need to be consistent and relevant. A simple festive calendar might look like this:

  • Pre-Diwali (now to Dhanteras): Teasers, gift guides, "here's what's coming" posts.

  • Dhanteras to Diwali: Offer announcements, countdown posts, customer stories.

  • Post-Diwali to Bhai Dooj: Thank-you posts, last-chance offers, follow-up content.

  • Mid-November to December: Year-end planning content, "start the new year right" offers.

Repurpose where you can. One blog post can become a LinkedIn post, a carousel, a few WhatsApp messages and an email. AI tools can speed up drafting, but always add your own voice and check every detail before publishing.

5. Use LinkedIn if you sell to businesses

Festive season is not only a B2C story. B2B decision-makers are also planning budgets, closing deals before year-end and thinking about the next quarter.

  • Share a founder post with a personal festive message and a business insight.

  • Publish a short carousel (for example, "5 things to fix before the year ends").

  • Run a small, focused ad to a single offer rather than a broad awareness push.

  • Engage before you sell. Comment thoughtfully on your prospects' posts in the weeks leading up.

The tone that works best is warm, direct and founder-to-founder. Wishes first, pitch second.

6. Run focused paid campaigns

If you're going to use ads, keep them tight.

  • One goal per campaign: leads, calls, store visits or purchases, not all four.

  • Match the ad to the landing page. The headline, offer and visuals should feel like one continuous story.

  • Start earlier than you think. Ad costs often rise closer to the festival, and platforms need time to learn.

  • Set a daily cap you're comfortable with and review performance every couple of days, not once at the end.

  • Retarget visitors who looked at your offer but didn't act.

7. Be ready to respond fast

Festive leads go cold quickly. People compare options in minutes, not days.

  • Decide who replies to enquiries and how quickly.

  • Prepare templates for common questions (pricing, delivery, availability).

  • Make sure WhatsApp Business is set up with a greeting and quick replies.

  • Track every lead in a simple sheet so nothing slips.

8. Follow up after the festival

Most businesses go quiet after Diwali. That is a missed opportunity.

  • Send a thank-you message to new customers.

  • Ask for reviews while the experience is fresh.

  • Follow up with leads who didn't convert, with a gentle "still interested?" message.

  • Review what worked and note it down for next year.

Quick printable checklist

  • Google Business Profile updated (hours, post, photos)

  • Content calendar planned through year-end

  • LinkedIn founder post and one focused campaign ready

  • Ads live with matching landing pages

  • Enquiry response process and templates ready

  • Post-festival follow-up planned

Final thought

Festive season rewards the prepared. You don't need to do everything on this list, but if you do nothing else, fix your website first and make your offer unmistakable. Everything else builds on that.
